Cubs Update

Don't panic this isn't going to become a regular newsletter to fill up your in box but there are a few things I wanted to tell you about regarding Cubs.

Pinewood Derby
Thanks to the sterling effort of Gary Williams and Steve Birch at last night's meeting all the cars now have a base coat of paint and are ready for the Cubs to decorate as they wish. The paint is now dry and I will bring the cars to school pickup at Westdene this afternoon. If your Cub picks up the car then they can decorate it with numbers, stickers or a painted detail over half term if they want to. The wheels still haven't been delivered but we still have time after half term to sort that.

Sixer's Forum
A big thank you to Kaio Middleton and Jamie Laird for representing the 31st at the Sixer's Forum to feedback the Cub's thoughts on other activities they would like to see.

Upcoming events
Thursday 28th February - Visit from Alison Evans and her guide dog Austin to talk to the Cubs about what it is like to be blind.
Thursday 18th April - Visit to Hove Fire Station - Part of Community Challenge and Local Knowledge Activity Badges
Sunday 21st April - St Georges Day Parade and celebration of Scouting. Counts as one quarter of the Promise Challenge Badge Requirement.

Activity Badges
Over the next year or so we are hoping to cover as many of these badges as pack activities:
Air Activities
Astronomer
Athletics
Athletics (Plus)
Camper
DIY
My Faith
Global Conservation
Home Safety
Local Knowledge
Map Reader
Naturalist
Navigator
Personal Safety
Road Safety
Scientist
World Faiths

This leaves the following badges which are probably more suitable for Cubs to consider individually:
Animal Carer
Artist
Book Reader
Chef
Collector
Communicator
Cyclist
Entertainer
Equestrian
Hobbies
Home Help
Martial Arts
Physical Recreation
Skater
Sports Enthusiast
Water Activities

So if your cub has swimming certificates, musical instrument grade exams, is a season ticket holder at the Amex, is a member of a cycling club, has a fabulous collection of model soldiers or does any other activity related to these any badges in either list then get them to let me know because they can get a badge for it.

If they want more information on what the badge requirements are then point them towards:

County Mystery Trip
We have thirteen Cubs attending but only one leader available to go. If you fancy helping to herd the flock and love a mystery then please let me know.  I need the remaining deposit payments by the next meeting please.

Online Scout Manager
I have had no complaints about the new way of booking events and activities so hopefully it is working well for everyone. Thank you all for updating the attendance requests even if your Cub isn't going because it means less work this end and hopefully less unwanted emails for you. If the reminders are coming too frequently or you have alternative email addresses that you would prefer I use then let me know.

Hopefully you have all found the section on badge progress you can see how far through earning a particular badge they are. If you notice a mismatch between the badges listed and the ones on their sleeve then let me know.

The reason for not using the online payment section is simply that it would add 2.95% to the cost of every activity. So for example the Pinewood Derby would cost £2.58 instead of £2.50. If you think this would be worth it to save the hassle of cheques or cash then let me know.

That's all I have apart from have a fun half term.
